Hello Newcomers from different parts of the world, the blog will explain 3 important things you must do in your first few weeks in Newfoundland. The blog will contain major things based on experience from another International student.
1. Get your SIN number
Social Insurance Number or SIN number is the number one thing you should get. Getting a SIN number not only opens the doorway to get jobs, as well as it helps to get financial documents, and more importantly, any tax-related paperwork can be filled only when you have this.

To get your SIN number, visit the Service Canada office nearby. OR, you can also apply for the SIN number online. The link to apply for SIN number online is provided below:

Make sure to apply for the SIN number once you arrive. Also, after getting it, never share it with anyone! I will post a blog about why you shouldn’t share your SIN number.
2. Getting MCP card
Medical Care Plan, MCP card is the second thing to do. There are some eligibility criteria to get the MCP card, just like to get a SIN number there are eligibility criteria too.

This card will give you access to Canada’s free Healthcare system. Checkout the following link for details.

3. Getting a Photo ID/ Driver’s License
A photo ID/ a Driver’s License is a daily companion. Wherever you go, make sure to carry a Photo ID, as many places requires different types of verification.

The Newfoundland Motor Registration office, DMV helps the residents to obtain a Photo ID or a Driver’s License. There are different classes of Licenses available for people, depending on what vehicles you plan to drive, and more. The eligibility criteria for this section is given in the following link.
